Whee! Day out. :)

So, I went out for a late birthday lunch with Mike and Theo, the other two of the trio who, years ago, started 'The Miyazaki Web' - what's now Nausicaa.net. Mike had Chris, his girlfriend of several years along... and after lunch (at the Cheesecake Factory...yum!), they announced that they're now engaged. Much congratulating ensued, and we went back to Mike and Chris' house to hang out after all.

While there, we watched the first four episodes of a new series currently airing in Japan. It's been years since I watched anything current...but it's also been a long time since a series grabbed me so quickly. Theo and I have become more casual anime fans over the years...but this was like old times, back at the ADP. (The now-drastically-changed anime club that the three of us originally met in.) The series was called .hack//SIGN and I have no idea how I can really describe it properly. It involves a massively multiplayer online game (VR-based)...where strange things begin to happen. I desperately want more than the first four episodes now, but since it's currently airing in Japan and only started in mid-April, there's not a lot more available yet. Whoever scripts it is as evil as I am when GM'ing campaigns, because they ended on cliffhangers and tease with /just/ enough information to make you think you know what's going on, before leaving you with even more questions when you realize you don't.

So, I'm sated and happy to have spent time with friends I hadn't in a while. Maybe just getting out and about like that was really good for me. :)
