Despite the commercialization of Christmas, the stress it can cause in people as they try to sort out gifts or scrape the money just a little further, despite the overshadowing of other holidays... this time of year, when you boil it down, has a different, deeper meaning than the birth of Christ, or the rededication of the temple by the Macabees, or anything.
It's a cold time of year in the Northern hemisphere. A time when people tend to want to be indoors where it's warm... and so it's a time when you spend more time inside with your family and loved ones. It's also a time when those down on their luck -- with no heating, or no home at all -- have the hardest time, and when our helping hand is most needed.
And that, to me, is what the season is about once you get past the commercialism or stress of the season; being together with those important to you, strengthening ties that have loosened, and just showing that you care, in general.
Happy Holidays, everyone.
