Aether Reunion

I know some old Aetherites are on my friends list, so I'm posting this for those who were former residents of Haven.

For this week, Aether's back up. It's a reunion, allowing folks to slip into their old skins and catch up with friends who we've long since lost touch with in the years since Aether closed. The website's back up at the old address, and the game's at the same place it used to be. Characters who were there as of the shutdown are still there, others can recreate their name/body to have a recognizable name for their friends. It's not RP or anything, just consider it a big party where folks are hanging out and catching up.

Hope to see any of the old crew there! :)

Cleany cleany clean...

It was a beautiful day today... sunny, light breeze, 72-75 degrees (yow) out. Jen and Brent went out to get softball gear for Brent -- he's joining a summer softball team, apparently -- but found it was really expensive. They've gone down to Tacoma to get it instead, but I don't yet know when they'll be back; Tacoma is, alas, a cellular phone dead-zone.

So, being still in neurotic cleaning mode, I decided to pass the time cleaning.

I've cleaned up more of the living room -- still not perfect, but it's nicer -- as a start. I also went shopping, and bought all sorts of things. Various dinner fixings, bread, snacks, stuff to make breakfasts, brownie mix, a new mop, and so on. Having the Beetle all cleaned out is great; it has a much bigger trunk than you'd think, and it was easy to carry all the groceries. Brought it all in, and realized the fridge was a mess. Put everything that needed to stay cool into a cooler in a closet, and then quickly emptied the fridge one shelf at a time. Took the shelves out to clean them a bit, sorted through the food to get rid of anything old enough to be developing primitive motor skills, put everything else back, and put away all the food and groceries. Did another load of dishes, started some laundry, used the Pledge I bought to treat most of our wooden furniture, opened the windows to let the house cool off, took out the trash and recycling again, ate a late lunch, and now have settled down. Whew! Busy busy.

Now I'm settled in here in the living room, finally watching CSI: Miami from last week (yay, TiVo) and settling in for the evening. I'll sort out dinner shortly if I don't hear from Jen and Brent -- I know that often Tacoma trips mean dinner with her parents -- and enjoying the breeze as the sun goes down. (Yay, opening windows!)

Weird Encounters / Strange Evening

So, right around the time I got an SMS from Jen that she and Brent had eaten already, bayushi called to say she was in the area with amezuki and they could drop off my DVD. A little while later, I heard the doorbell ring, and -- thinking it was them -- I opened the door without checking.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. While our neighborhood is not bad, we are right on a couple very active traffic routes, and sometimes you get 'interesting' individuals wandering through, in addition to the very nice neighbors.

So, standing at the door is this fat, smelly guy wearing a stained pair of sweatpants, a ratty sweatshirt, and sneakers which are wrapped in duct tape. His forehead is covered in bandaids, and he's hauling two clear plastic garbage bags filled with empty McDonald's containers -- drink cups, mostly -- behind him.

"Hi. Can I wash up? I need to piss really bad."
"The stores won't let you use the restroom to wash up, because they're afraid you'll break it."
"I'm about to..."
"See, I'm from the midwest. They build things there to last. People aren't worried that you'll break their bathrooms, so they let you take a piss. Can I take a piss?"
"...I'm about to meet with some folks, and I'll be leaving."
"But I'll only take a minute. I just need to piss. I come from the midwest, I can piss fast."
"...right. Yeah, I'm really sorry, but... well, there's a motel right across the street, maybe they could help?"
"I checked at the motel. They said I couldn't take a piss because it's wear and tear on their bathrooms. They said to ask the people along the street."
*makes a mental note to take vengeance on the motel management* "Ah. Well, y'know where Fremont is?"
"Yeah. It's *points northeast* over there. Just west of here."
"Actually, it's *points southwest* just over that way, three blocks south and one block west. There's lots of pubs there, maybe one of them could let you use the bathroom."
*shakes bag of McDonald's debris* "Pubs... they don't like you to use their bathrooms. They have deadbolts on the doors."

At this point, bayushi and amezuki really did show up, I ushered them in, apologized to the odd individual, and closed the door.
