(Okay, so the subject line is not the best rendition of a modem or fax connection noise.)

So, I've been getting -- for the past year -- these calls with no caller ID which had nothing but an occasional 'boop' and never anyone talking. I finally, at the old house, plugged in my printer/fax and answered the call once; it was an automated note for a mental health office. (No comments on the irony, please.) Today, I get another boop-boop-boop call -- the first one in a week or so -- and it's a fax with, this time, a return fax number. I scribbled in big, dark letters across the whole 'fill in the dots' survey sheet...

NO! Not a fax line. Residential voice line, private home. PLEASE STOP SENDING FAXES TO MY VOICE LINE. IT IS EXTREMELY IRRITATING. THANK YOU.

...and then faxed it to the return number. Let's see if I get another fax ever. God, I hope not.

I always get lovely wrong numbers.

So far, since I moved in to the apartment on Dec 21 with the new number, I have received three times the number of calls for Brett as I have for me. Brett evidently lives on a road nearby, and doesn't know his new number, because I've received three phone calls from Pizza Hut trying to get through the gate or confirming pizza orders. He also has some nice collection agencies calling him, but I managed to stop that by saying convincing them it really wasn't Brett's number and no, I don't know him, I've had the number a week and a half....
See, the sucky part is that when it's a fax, I have to accept it and make a note of the number and pray I can send one back, because I can't just pick up the phone and say 'no, I'm sorry, you have the wrong number.' Worse still, if a fax doesn't connect, it generally hangs up, waits 60 seconds, dials again...repeat for five dials.

Can you phone the operator and find out what company owns the fax line?
I get a fax call sometimes too. Fortunately not all the time.

The main problem, of course, is that when I get them they're Out Of Area.
Exactly. Out of Area sucks.
