Ode to an Airport

I'm in Salt Lake City, but not for long.

I inflicted drivel on shadowfey and astalavista, who had the misfortune to mail my mobile e-mail while I was in the Austin airport waiting for my flight. Poor astalavista didn't deserve such doggerel after she helped me keep my sanity by exchanging e-mails with me when I finished my training course early.

Ode to an Airport

Stuck in an airport,
Nothing to do.
My flight isn't here yet
So I write e-mails to you.
It's raining in Austin,
And a little bit cold.
And that boarding announcement
Is getting quite old.
I really hate flying
And have for years.
But I'd rather be airborne
Than here, bored to tears.
This poem is drivel,
The meter quite bad.
But, drivel or not,
Keeps me from going mad.
I have a book with me
(Actually, I have two!)
But I'll read those in the air
Where I can't pester you.
So here I still sit,
Scribbling away.
Relieved I'll be home
At the end of the day.
I've wasted ten minutes
Writing this poem.
But hey, that's ten minutes
Closer to home.
Oh, I just got e-mail
From Andi, I see.
So I'll cut short this message
So you don't kill me!
