[Philosophical] Passings

Several folks passed away over the holidays, it seems. As historie68 reported, Congressman Robert Matsui, one of the most senior and most respected Democrats in Congress, passed away on New Year's from pneumonia.

And has been reported in SFWA, Kelly Freas has passed away. For those who don't know, Kelly Freas was the artist who illustrated so many of the SF magazine covers (Analog, Astounding, Azimov's, and so on) for decades, as well as doing the covers to the Writers of the Future first-time-writer anthologies. Right up until he passed away, he was still taking commissions, and still filling those roles. He was perhaps the most prolific SF and Fantasy cover artist out there, and it's always been considered a real honor to get your story illustrated by him.

A new year brings new beginnings, but I suppose some new endings as well.
